Grammar - Plurals and Possessives

Mixing up plurals and possessives is a mistake I see repeatedly on the Internet. Let's clear it up once and for all!

Putting an 's' on the end of a word can actually do a couple of things. It can make a singular noun plural, or it can make it possessive. Let's look at the difference between plural and possessive.

Plurals - Putting an 's' on the end of the noun makes it plural, such as cat/cats, dog/dogs, banana/bananas and so on.

Possessives - Putting an 's' on a word describing something that belongs to someone needs to have an apostrophe before the 's'. For example, 'that is Sarah's cat', or 'that is Sarah's baby'.

There is always that really tricky one, it's (it is) and its (possessive). I always have to stop and think about this one! You could do a whole post just on this subject! :-D
